Days 28 - 29 - Happy International Women's Day!
In and around Canberra 40km
Day 28 - While we continue to wait for the East Coast low, and associated big rains and winds to pass, we entertain ourselves by getting lost trying to ride the Centenary trail in Canberra. The city is criss crossed with so many cycling trails, but despite multiple attempts, fence hopping and some unofficial mountain biking we just couldn't find the Centenary trail. So we gave up and rode to Parliament instead. Funnily enough, we found this trail in fabulous condition with great signage.
Kerstin has a bit of a thing for capital cities, so we have been in Canberra twice previously. But have never visited the National Library, which currently has an excellent exhibition about the history of the performing arts in Australia since colonisation.
Day 29 - Hanging with Iris 0km
The rain arrived in Canberra today for IWD. So while we shelter from the weather at Iris' place. She has been generously hosting these friends of her friends (Liz and Jackie), and we are repaying her generosity with acts of cooking. So far we have done banana muffins, homemade pizza, homemade schnitzel and a big pot of carbonara. For International Women's Day we decide to celebrate by each cooking a speciality from our Grandmothers. Iris arrives home from work and immediately puts on "I am Woman" by Helen Reddy nice and loud, and we all sing and bougie in the kitchen. The German potatoes and sausage warm us up while it keeps on raining. And Nonna's donuts are the perfect accompaniment to The Exhibitionists on ABC and a glass of Marsala.
Thank you so much Iris!
