Day 64 - On the road again
Bingara to Inverell 73km
It's hard to leave Bingara this morning, Bev and Chris are up early and off, so we get the pleasure of taking Billy for his morning constitutional. He really takes greyhound laid backness to another level, way more trustworthy off lead than Raph.
The route to Inverell is all laid out, and we eventually roll out of Bingara, over the river and onwards. It's surprisingly good weather, with even a light tailwind! On Bev's advice our first stop for the day is at Myall Creek. The sight of the Myall Creek Massacre and now the sight of a community reconciliation project. It is very well designed, leading visitors through both the truth of what happened at Myall Creek, as well as the ongoing efforts to find a way forward. It is a moving and strangly hopeful place.
The backroad shortcut to Inverell takes longer than anticipated with a flat tyre after lunch, five corner jack strikes again. Still that's only one flat for every 1000km, and we are getting faster at repairing them too. Ironically, we were headed to the bike store in Inverell for a new chain and pedals regardless. But the flat means we miss the opening hours, and will have to wait until tomorrow. Both new parts are essential, as I cannot stand the constant click clicking of the play in my pedals any longer.
We arrive at the caravan park with just enough time before dark to set up the tent, and enjoy a pasta dinner before falling into bed, dreams of Texas QLD in our heads.
