Day 84 to 88 - Laying low

 Still in Jandowae

This morning we were supposed to be back on the road towards Kingaroy.  I am feeling heaps better and no more symptoms.  As the storm rolled overhead, and I was woken up by the noise of a big branch falling, Kerstin grumbles in the pre dawn darkness, "I feel miserable".  Fever, sore throat, runny nose, lethargy.... it's not worth wasting the RAT test.  So we swap jobs, I make the cups of tea and soup, dispense the paracetamol and entertain Kerstin by reading aloud.  In between she sleeps and sneezes loud enough to frighten the dog.  Bandit, the dachshund x chihuahua, continues to visit everyday for a playdate.

The fearless  Bandit

Maybe the timing is good anyway, after a week of blue skies and warm days, it is cool(ish) and wet today.  And after all of Kerstin's adventures in microwave cooking, surely it is my turn to give it a go.  There is also the option of sparking up the camping stove, which we did pull out after a run to the local butcher produced an enormous steak!

Thankfully she only asked for one!

We have gotten some small jobs done whilst in isolation.  We've cleaned and lubed the bikes, patched the leaks in Kerstin's raincoat and sewn up the holes in her sleeping bag liner.  Done the laundry, made phone calls, written letters, listened to podcasts, and researched topics as diverse as 'what is the origin of the word Donga?'  The answer: nobody really knows, 'Current best-selling German book?'  Answer: Affenhitze, a crime novel set in Allgäu, investigating the suspicious death of an evolutionary biologist and finally 'What exactly is an enrobed biscuit?'  Answer: chocolate coated.

So shiny

As we have quite significantly depleted the list of things to do, tomorrow I'll be washing my hair.  And answering the question 'can you make omelettes in the microwave?'  Stay tuned!

  1. Really happy to have you girls back on line. Hope that Kerstin gets through as quickly as possible. Uncle Joe is on the phone to Stewart doing a "distance learning tutorial" on preserving olives. While he is doing that I emailed Stewart the recipes we had collected which I had typed and filed into my computer. I have three sub-directories relating to food!! Winter has come here early and the fire has been on the past two days. It is lovely. And it is lovely to see your two smiling faces. And having a dog visitor is great. So, it will be "a coupla days" more before you move onto Kingaroy. Better to get all your strength back. Fond Regards and good luck.

  2. Josey makes omelettes in the microwave all the time. Not too long and stir gently 1/2 way through!

  3. So pleased you could stay dry, and able to look after each other one at a time.
We had 40mm rain this last week, so, let's hope that means rain up North will lighten up.
Hope you can find a brain challenge over the next few days. Maybe questions around dog breeds or origins. Grateful that you had Bandit to brighten up your day.
